Improving Self-Worth through Charity

Perhaps the best known and least used advice is that the best cure for your blues is to focus on others. In this world of increasing self-interests in expense of helping fellow men, we are seeing a dramatic increase in depression, loneliness, and decreasing self-worth. Charity, as described in the bible, is the pure love of Christ. Through this pure love, you can not only help your own self-worth but others as well.
One can hardly write all of the benefits of donating to charities and others. First, donating to charities helps others in need. There are times in our lives which we have no control over what happens. These occur during natural disasters, wars, and diseases. During these calamities, which happen at no fault of their own, these people are helpless, depending on support from others. Only through donations can they be helped. By helping other countries or those in our own country, all of society is benefited, as the standard of living is increased on a wide scale.
The second great area of benefits from donations occurs on a personal level. By focusing on the needs of others, our own needs and pains are forgotten or alleviated. Selfishness is greatly decreased through donations. Upon seeing the benefits of others of your donation, your self-worth is also increased. You and the benefitor's level of happiness is increased. No material item that could be purchased with the donation could be a substitute for the joy that can be felt by helping others in need.
As a christian, I also believe that we receive heavenly blessings when we decide to help our fellow man. These blessings might be seen while here on earth, or "saved up" in heaven. These blessings are real, and can be felt in numerous ways. I implore all of us to rededicate ourselves to donating to charities and reputable funds, so that we can increase everyones happiness, and our own self-worth in the process.
